9 April

£10 in the draw! Is it your Lucky Day? Well, in 1511, St John's College, Cambridge received its charter on this day and, in 1860, Édouard-Léon Scott de Martinville made the oldest known recording of an audible human voice. In 1965, the Astrodome opened and the first indoor baseball game is played.

Famous people born on this day include Charles Baudelaire, French poet and critic, born 1821, Dennis Quaid, American actor, born 1954 and Cynthia Nixon, American actress, born 1966. However, the day has to go to Isambard Kingdom Brunel, English engineer, who designed the Clifton Suspension Bridge, born on this day in 1806:

I am opposed to the laying down of rules or conditions to be observed in the construction of bridges lest the progress of improvement tomorrow might be embarrassed or shackled by recording or registering as law the prejudices or errors of today.

Have a brilliant day my friend!
