20 April

£10 in the draw! Could it be your lucky day? It was lucky in 1534 when Jacques Cartier began his first voyage to the east coast of Canada, the island of Newfoundland and Labrador, and in 1871, the Civil Rights Act of 1871 became law. Finally, in 1939, Billie Holiday recorded the first civil rights song "Strange Fruit".

Famous people born on this day include Jessica Lange, American actress, born 1949, Luther Vandross, American singer-songwriter and producer, born 1951 and Sebastian Faulks, English journalist and author, born 1953. As I dedicated a day to Billie Holiday recently, I dedicate today to Luther!

My father would lift me high. And dance with my mother and me
then spin me around till I fell asleep.
Then up the stairs he would carry me and I knew for sure I was loved.

Have a lovely, lucky day my friend!
