14 April

£10 in the draw! Is it your LUCKY DAY? It was a lucky day in 1434 when the foundation stone of Nantes Cathedral, France was laid, and, in 1860, the first Pony Express rider reached San Francisco. In 1931, the first edition of The Highway Code was published in Great Britain and in 1939, The Grapes of Wrath, by American author John Steinbeck was first published by the Viking Press. Finally, in 1956, videotape was first demonstrated in Chicago.

A great day for Scottish actors as Peter Capaldi, Scottish actor, director, and screenwriter, was born on this day in 1958 and Robert Carlyle, Scottish actor and director, was born 1961. The day, of course, has to go the The Doctor. Take a bow, Peter Capaldi!

Real heroes are all around us and uncelebrated.

There is no such thing as too much swearing. Swearing is just a piece of linguistic mechanics. The words in-between are the clever ones.

I've always been interested in the idea of people who fell through the cracks.

A girl once came to my beery flat in Kensal Green, opened the blinds and cooked me breakfast. I married her.

Have a lovely, lucky day my friend!
