6 March

Welcome to the 6th of March, hopefully luckier than yesterday! Well, in 1665, the first joint Secretary of the Royal Society, Henry Oldenburg, published the first issue of Philosophical Transactions of the Royal Society and in 1902, Real Madrid C.F. was founded. Which was very lucky because on the same day in 1983, the first United States Football League game was played.

Famous people born on this day include the peerless Michelangelo, Italian painter and sculptor, born in 1475, the wonderful English-Italian poet, Elizabeth Barrett Browning, born 1806, and English comedian and actor, Frankie Howerd, born on this day in 1917. But the day goes to The Temptations, number one on the US Billboard on this day in 1965 with “My Girl”:

I've got sunshine on a cloudy day.
When it's cold outside I've got the month of May.

I guess you'd say
What can make me feel this way?
My girl (my girl, my girl)
Talkin' 'bout my girl (my girl)
