18 March

There are just too many lucky things to celebrate on this day, so let’s not differ any more and get on with it! In 1892, former Governor General Lord Stanley pledged to donate a silver challenge cup, as an award for the best hockey team in Canada, which, of course, became known as the Stanley Cup. In 1965, cosmonaut Alexey Leonov, left his spacecraft Voskhod 2 for 12 minutes, becomes the first person to walk in space. However, topping all of this is the fact that in 1985, the first episode of Neighbours was broadcast!

Famous people born on this day include Wilfred Owen, English soldier and poet, born 1893 (“Sleep mothered them; and left the twilight sad); Luc Besson, French director, producer, and screenwriter, born 1959; Courtney Pine, English saxophonist and clarinet player, born 1964; and Queen Latifah, American actress, singer and rapper, was born on this day in 1970.

I was going to dedicate the day to The Beatles, number one on the US Billboard on this day in 1967 with Penny Lane, or even the Bee Gees, number one on the US Billboard on this day in 1978 with Night Fever. But no. The day is dedicated to an American businessman who has made a northern English lass very happy when he created Cookie Dough ice-cream and Cinnamon Buns ice-cream and Phish Food ice cream and Chocolate Fudge Brownie ice-cream and … well, you get the idea! The day is dedicated to Ben Cohen, co-founder of Ben and Jerry's, born on this day in 1951.

Wishing you an ice-cream filled lucky day! And it’s a Friday – so you should know what this means by now – a new Lucky Day draw! Hope you have a lucky day and celebrate with lots of ice-cream! Take care my friend!
