6 February

Welcome to the 6th of February – a day of votes, slam dunks and love! In 1819 on this day Sir Thomas Stamford Raffles founded Singapore and in 1843 the first minstrel show in the United States, The Virginia Minstrels, opened at the Bowery Amphitheatre in New York City. In 1918 British women over the age of 30 acquired the right to vote and in 1988 Michael Jordan made his signature slam dunk from the free throw line inspiring Air Jordan and the Jumpman logo.

However, the birthdays on this day are something else. In 1895 Babe Ruth, legendary American baseball player and coach was born. But it is really the birth of inspirational music on this day that we are celebrating. No, not the fact Rick Astley was born in 1966 on this day (although we do love a bit of 80s pop!). Instead the day goes to the brilliant Bob Marley, Jamaican singer-songwriter and guitarist, born on this day in 1945. Sing it Bobby!

I wanna love you and treat you right;
I wanna love you every day and every night:
We'll be together with a roof right over our heads;
We'll share the shelter of my single bed;
We'll share the same room, yeah! - for Jah provide the bread.
Is this love - is this love - is this love -
Is this love that I'm feelin'?

Have a wonderful love-filled lucky day my friend!
