5 February

So many lucky, brilliant and random events on this day so let’s get going! On this day in 1852, the New Hermitage Museum in Saint Petersburg, Russia, opened to the public (one of the largest and oldest museums in the world) and in 1869, the largest alluvial gold nugget in history, called the "Welcome Stranger" was found in Australia. Now that is lucky! Next, we have Charlie Chaplin, Mary Pickford, Douglas Fairbanks, and D. W. Griffith launching United Artists in 1919 and on this day in 1924 the Royal Greenwich Observatory began broadcasting the hourly time signals known as the Greenwich Time Signal or the "BBC pips" (love this!). In 1971, astronauts landed on the moon in the Apollo 14 mission and in 1972, Bob Douglas became the first African American elected to the Basketball Hall of Fame.

So many great events and I haven’t yet mentioned that Toto were number one in the US in 1983 with “Africa” or that the footballer Cristiano Ronaldo was born on this day in 1985! Instead I will focus on the fact that Russell Grant was born on this day in 1951. Unless you are a child of the 1980s like myself or older, this will mean nothing to you, so I apologise. But to the rest of us who grew up watching  Anne Diamond and Wincey Willis on Good Morning Britain, we salute you Russell as resident astrologer, telling us to take care when Saturn was crossing Pluto, or was it Jupiter causing havoc with Venus?

Hope you have a star filled lucky day my friend!
