2 February

Oh Groundhog Day, what lucky events have you witnessed over the years? Well, a lot of coincidences actually! First, the National League of Professional Baseball Clubs of Major League Baseball was formed on this day in 1876 and 60 years later on the same day in 1936, Babe Ruth was elected into the Baseball Hall of Fame. Irish novelist and poet James Joyce was born on this day in 1882 and 40 years later his epic Ulysses was published.

But what exactly is Groundhog Day? A 1993 film, right, with the legendary Bill Murray in? Actually, it is folklore, mainly celebrated in the US, that says on this day, 2 February, if it is cloudy when a groundhog emerges from its burrow, then spring will come early. But if it is sunny and the groundhog supposedly see its shadow and retreats back into its burrow, then the winter weather will last for six more weeks. Better hope it’s a cloudy day then!

Wishing you all a cloudy lucky day!
