26 January

A mountainous day in every way! In 1915, the Rocky Mountain National Park was established by the U.S. Congress, and in 1960 Danny Heater set a worldwide high school basketball scoring record by shooting high when he recorded 135 points for Burnsville High School, West Virginia. Before all of this though, in 1911 Glenn H. Curtiss flew the first successful American seaplane on this day. Yet who can believe it was over 35 years ago when Michael Jackson was number one on the US Billboard in 1980 with “Rock with you”!

But who shall we dedicate the day to? Maybe Paul Newman, born on this day in 1925, who famously said “Why go out for hamburger when you have steak at home?

Sorry Paul, but we are going with Ellen DeGeneres, born on this day in 1958, who said "So be who you really are. Embrace who you are. Literally. Hug yourself. Accept who you are. Unless you're a serial killer.”
